North Port boasts beautiful natural areas that are perfect for exploration by kayak. The pristine Myakka River has launches at the Cartleton Reserve, Sleeping Turtle Preserves, and Snook Haven, with great fishing throughout. North Port's Canals offer an interesting look at the natural side of the city, and a chance to catch bass, florida gar, bluegill and crappie. Deer Prairie Creek, adjacent to the city, is a wonderful preserve featuring a launch in the Big Slough.
